Because the messages your body sends you are only available to you, if you listen.
It’s so tempting to believe that someone else knows what you need to do to lose weight, or get fit and strong.
And there are so many experts who have so much valuable information for us about all of this.
But here’s the thing: your body is unique to you.
What your body needs to reach it’s natural weight is different from what I need
or what the average person in the latest research needs.
I’ll tell you about my week to prove it to you.
A few weeks ago I told you how I had lost 5 pounds (5.6 to be exact) by eating whatever I wanted when I was hungry until I was satisfied.
I decided to send my food journals to my coach,
who questioned the amount of non-fuel food I was eating.
I told her I’m eating what my body is asking for.
That I need carby food to settle the metallic taste in my mouth and my queasy stomach.
She didn’t quite buy it.
I told her that the evidence (weight loss) suggested that I was doing the right thing for this body at this time.
I started to question myself.
She’s a skilled coach.
Maybe I was using these meds as an excuse to eat candy?
I know my mind can be quite tricky!
So I decided that I must eat more greens and less sugar.
I discovered that green smoothies and salads do not go well with metallic tastebuds.
They didn’t even feel good in my body, even though they usually do.
But I made myself eat them anyway.
Because I let myself listen to an ‘expert’ instead of my inner wisdom.
Each night, I was in the kitchen mindlessly eating cookies.
This is the guaranteed result of any deprivation we impose on ourselves.
Every time you force yourself to stick to a diet you don’t enjoy,
or eat foods you don’t love in order to lose weight,
research confirms that eventually you’ll respond with a binge,
extended enough to cause you to gain more weight than you originally lost.
Luckily I’m pretty aware of myself, and I caught this after two days.
It was such a great reminder to me that even my excellent coach can’t possibly know what I need when I need it.
